I have wanted to work a second size of my start with chai hair ribbon since before I released it. The new size is wider and a bit shorter in length, but I wanted to make sure it could still be worked with commonly available mini skeins. I’ve knit a few samples from scraps, and while I can weigh them, I wasn’t intentional about the making process. Since I don’t like flying with 1.75mm sharp steel circular needles, I needed a different project from my standard sock for the short 2 hour flight to Chicago, and one that would also leave room in my carry-on for yarn.

I cast on before leaving the house and worked a few rows to establish the pattern and make sure my needle and cable choice suited me and the project. Once at LGA, I settled in at the gate, later found my seat, and made significant progress by the time we landed in the Windy City.

I didn’t knit much during the show, but honestly, I didn’t expect to. I did swatch something though.

I got to O’Hare faster than I expected. I’d read the train schedule, so I knew on paper how long it should take; I still couldn’t quite believe it. A bit like how I didn’t believe LGA could be as beautiful as it is (I’d not flown since 2019). I took the Blue Line one stop from the convention center to the airport; I left at 3:32pm and was through security by 4:15, time which includes figuring out which TSA checkpoint I qualified for and thus some extra walking that I could probably have avoided with better advance knowledge. So, of course my flight was delayed. I didn’t get much knitting done until I was on the plane; I’d spent much of the wait reading the weather and trying to determine if that was the final gate change call. It was a bit of a bumpy flight, especially at landing. I thought at first I had stumbled onto a new stitch pattern, but night mode on my phone before they brought the cabin lights back up gave me enough confidence that I’d actually knitted it correctly.

Since returning home I’ve been working on it the past few days as I’ve had bandwidth. I really want to work on all the projects, and rereleasing this one will be straightforward once the sample is done. This morning I took it out at coffee and was delighted to discover I have just enough yarn left that I can hold it on my thumb. I’m hoping to finish enough admin work today to finally cast off and get a pair of socks back into my EDC.
