shift.02

Shift cowl in blues, greys /golds, and greens/rose shown on a black covered mannequin/dressform.

This design was what put the spincycle dyed in the wool yarn on my roadmap. I was curious enough after knitting the first shift to see how it would look in spincycle. Thanks to an amazing online year-end sale at Haus of Yarn I was able to pick up two more skeins. I'm really not sure they're the right yarns or perhaps the right skeins of the colourways.

As of 24 January, section three is lacking contrast so I've not actually broken yarn yet (it's a bit of a tangle to knit) but I think overall I like this combination. We'll see how prominent the one color in The Meadows I detest comes out.

I never would have expected it to look like this, I love it. The issues I had with the rose/red colors in yarn C are not a concern at all now.

Ends woven!

6 February 2024

I spent coffee time this morning weaving in the ends.

I'm still amazed at how these three yarns knitted together in this pattern. It isn't at all how I expected and it turned the one colour block in The Meadows that had caused me frustration previously to be completely different and one I now like. Colour is fascinating and how when viewed next to different colours, our perception of what colour it is can ... shift.

I may have wasted spent yesterday swatching trying to figure out the magic and come up with something I wanted to knit next. However, this design is currently sticky in my head so the swatches kept evolving into this stitch pattern after a few rows.

Now that it's finished, I'm curious how it'll wear, it's my first time working with the Spincycle.

The question remains, will I finally make progress on everything else I should be working on?

snuggles with dot and a good afternoon of knitting lead to binding off tonight. It took an hour but I wasn’t very focused.

this is an interesting design and I think I’ve unlocked some of its magic.

so close!

1 February 2024

I've been nearly monogamous to this project since starting it on 21 Jan. I'm still trying to unlock it's magic and hope one day my brain can design something that I want to knit (or crochet) again and again.

I'm now in section six.

Once again the colours have surprised me. When I tried working up the colourway I have for C (The Meadows) previously it did not play well at all with other yarns or colours. It sings next to both B (Grumpy Birds1) and A (Idle Nights). I did not expect this.

I have not had a design force me to rethink my (terrible) relationship with colour so drastically before. This is wonderful.

And I honestly wonder what I'll think of these pairings in a few weeks ... or years. Will they hold up?

also: footnotes disappeared for me, so this is a work-around.

Second one same as the first

A little bit different and a whole lot of fun.

I’m trying to unlock what makes this an addictive knit that leads to experimentation in yarns and colors. And why I’m drawn to this style— I’ve worn the first one every day since I finished it.
It’s helping me think beyond my single skein or colorway project design mindset.
