Finished. Finally!

23 July 2024

I finished and wove in the ends on Sunday. I wore it for the first time yesterday and no one at minyan asked "did you make that" which either means they assume I did, or it didn't look different from something they're used to seeing in a shop. Today there's rain which combined with a basement studio means I've been wearing this cardigan all morning and I really enjoy the modification choices I made.

The sleeves are full length but not absurdly over long. they cover the meaty part of my thumb if I stretch it out. It's at about wrist length for the body. There's some short rows in the back to make sure it hangs long.

My mods to the collar included some short rows so it didn't go up too high on my neck in the back but gave me more coverage. Do I wish I could've made a much larger collar, it is 3.5 inches? Yes. But for a summer cardi it's good and I really wanted to be done.

I still haven't bothered to rinse or block it. I'm wearing it straight of the needles.

Photos as always are a challenge so dress form (aka mannequin without arms) photo shoot it is.

I can't believe this sweater is finally finished after all these years.

onto ribbing

14 July 2024

Last night i finished the second sleeve. Today I took the sweater to a site visit and a library book sale. I knit enough that the sweater is ready for ribbing. First the body, then the collar.

However, before that I tossed in some short rows to make sure the back hangs how I prefer. I did them differently than I have before. They started three stitches into the back from under arm. Then one at 11, 7, and 3 stitches. It should be subtle and enough.

opportunity knots

26 June 2024

I just ran into a knot in the cone and it’s providing me an opportunity. There’s enough body that knitting the sleeves would prove beneficial. So since there was break in the yarn I will start working up the sleeves.

Now to determine if I want 3/4 or full length.

ooh it's been a while

26 June 2024

Apparently I started this project back in 2015. I'm past the raglan increases and already divided for the sleeves at some point so the body is just a straight simple stockinette for a while. It's a good car knitting project. I knit more than I expected on the way home from a site visit. The body is now at about 9inches. My goal is at least 14. Plus I think long sleeves -- I can always push them up.
